Vase with Flowers (d'après Flettrich)
This piece was inspired by the work of New Orleans artist Leonard Flettrich. I wanted to mimic his composition, but I brought my own twist, making it more colorful and abstract. The artwork features a bold, striking bouquet arrangement in a dark vase, set against a vibrant, almost geometric background. I chose a rich color palette, with deep blues and blacks framing the composition, giving it a stained-glass or window-pane effect. I created a lively contrast against the more subdued background by rendering the flowers in bright yellows, reds, purples, and oranges,
My brushwork on the flowers is expressive, with loose, abstract forms that suggest different types of blooms without focusing on fine details--an approach that adds an impressionistic quality, allowing the viewer to appreciate the play of colors and shapes.
Overall, I aimed for a contemporary feel, paying homage to classic still-life arrangements but with a vibrant, modern, and more abstract touch, capturing the energy and inspiration I drew from Flettrich’s style.
