This painting was inspired by an unfinished study by Henri Lehmann in the Met’s collection. I was drawn to the quiet intensity of the pose—both guarded and vulnerable—and reimagined it with warmer, more expressive brushwork to evoke a more intimate, emotional atmosphere.
